This shows how I aranged the vegetables in the 5, 4’x4′ raised beds. The top of each will be positioned to the north, and will have a trellis on that end as well. The arrangement in the yard is still to be determined. The radishes and green onions will not have their own dedicated space as I will be placing them in the empty nooks and crannies around some of the others. Broccoli will be placed in the corners of the 3×3 squash plots as it should be harvested before the squash gets too big.

Warning — that Broccoli can get real big! I planted two squares last year and they grew to almost 4′ tall! It took over about half the 4′ x 4′ bed. Great tasting broccoli though! And FYI you get about one big head and a bunch of little clusters if you keep harvesting — and harvest before it goes to seed! Kathy

I planned this garden entirely on theory from the book and the seed packets so I am sure I am in for some surprises! I haven’t grown very many different types of vegetables in my life, so a lot of this will be trial and error, but that’s alright. It’s more fun that way anyway!
